build a brighter future

In 2002, we started the Building a Brighter Future Program to bring higher education to Cambodia’s youth.  These students deserve a future. For their country, they are the future.  Our vision is to rebuild the society that Pol Pot destroyed. And we’re doing that, one student at a time.

past programs

We weren’t always in the business of higher education. Our first programs were geared toward the high-school aged children of Cambodia’s orphanages. In those programs, we focused on bringing Cambodia’s children access to their traditional culture and to the arts.  Learn more about our past programming, here.

our success

We’re proud of our success. Since starting the Building a Brighter Future program in 2002, we’ve enrolled 42 students and provided for their living and educational needs. Some of our graduates have already begun giving back to their communities by volunteering for Global Children. Economically, our students’ success can be seen in their average income, which is  around five times the national average.

why cambodia?

Why do we work with Cambodia? Well for one thing, for us it’s personal. Ever since our founder visited Cambodia in 1990, she’s felt a connection with the Khmer people and especially with Cambodian youth. But for another, Cambodia is unique: it has suffered what is probably the worst genocide perpetrated by a government on its own people. Cambodians still fight for freedom and economic opportunity, today. We are honored to contribute to their efforts by building an empowered Cambodian citizenry.
