I am the fifth of six siblings in a family that has struggled with poverty for years. My mother has been ill for seven years and cannot work, while my father suffered from untreated diabetes for over 20 years. When I was 19, my parents divorced after my father’s gambling debts became unbearable, and I failed my Bacll exam because I spent nights at the hospital caring for my father, then came home to help my ill mother and youngest sister while working to earn money for medication. I’ve always dreamed of becoming a policeman and having a happy family, but those dreams seemed impossible when I had to leave school to provide for my ill mother.
Now, through Global Children Cambodia, I have the opportunity to study Law and work toward a future where I can help my family escape this cycle of hardship. I am deeply grateful to Ms. Laura Sackler for giving me hope when I had none and the chance to pursue my dreams while supporting my mother. I wish her good health and happiness.
