I am the youngest of two children from Phnom Penh. I grew up in a loving family where my mother, a military nurse and our breadwinner, instilled strong values of morality and humanitarianism in my brother and me. When I was young, she was diagnosed with a chronic disease and tragically passed away, plunging our family into poverty. My father, limited by arthritis and old age, could only work as a tuk tuk driver earning minimal income. As his health declined drastically in recent years, my brother had to work as a waiter to help support us.
After finishing 12th grade, my teacher Mr. Vannak told me about Global Children’s scholarship program. I prayed day and night after applying, desperate for the opportunity to attend university. When I learned I had received the scholarship, I was beyond elated. Global Children has provided school supplies and monthly funds, allowing me to pursue my dream of becoming a doctor. I am determined to persevere through the challenging workload and curriculum, knowing that this path will enable me to help people and alleviate my family’s financial burdens.
