My name is Houm Linda. I am 18 years old and originally from Banteay Meanchey Province. I have four siblings, and I am the fourth child in my family. My parents are farmers. When I was studying in high school, my illiterate father worked very hard in construction, carried loads for others, and did any job he could to earn money for our education. During the rainy season, at 3 or 4 in the morning, he would go fishing. Every morning before going to school, my mother and I would take those fish and walk around the village to sell them. Some days we earned money, some days we didn’t. When I was in grade 12, I was so stressed because I didn’t know if I could continue studying, because my parents had no financial means.
When I heard that Global Children Cambodia was selecting students, I was very excited and applied.
Fortunately, I was selected and received support from GCC, which gave me the opportunity to continue my studies. Currently, I am studying Banking and Finance at the National University of Management, in my second year. Living at GCC has made me a complete student without fear or worry about having no place to stay or food to eat.
