I am the second of four siblings from Kandal Province. My father was a construction worker earning about $5 per day, collecting river clams when work was unavailable, while my mother worked as a night security guard and farmer. Despite planting vegetables to sell and working constantly, my family struggled with high expenses, school fees, and bank debts. My father developed severe health problems from contaminated water, leading to a stomach ulcer. One evening in 2017, after I returned from school, he collapsed. We waited for my mother to come home before rushing him to the hospital, but we couldn’t afford the blood transfusion he needed. He passed away that night, leaving my mother to raise four children and care for my grandfather alone.
After my father’s death, my mother enrolled us in the Bright Minds Youth program in Preah Veng Province, which allowed us to continue our education. I graduated in 2024 and applied for a scholarship through Global Children Cambodia to attend university. I am incredibly fortunate to have been selected to study Pharmacy and extend my heartfelt gratitude to the organization for giving me this life-changing opportunity to pursue higher education and build a better future for my family.
