My name is Son Sreypov, I am 18 years old and originally from Prey Veng Province. I have five siblings, and I am the fourth child in my family. My parents are farmers. When I was in high school, life was very difficult because my illiterate father worked extremely hard, taking on all kinds of physically demanding labor jobs to earn money for our education. During the rainy season, at 3 or 4 in the morning, my father would go out to catch frogs and fish.
Every morning before school, my mother and I would take the fish and walk around the village to sell them. Some days we earned a little money for school, and some days we didn’t. When I was in Grade 12, I didn’t know if I would be able to continue studying because my parents had no financial means.
Then I heard that Global Children Cambodia was selecting students and I applied. Fortunately, I was selected and received support from GCC, which gave me the opportunity to continue my studies. Today, I am a second-year student studying Accounting at the National University of Management. Living at GCC has helped me become a more confident and independent student. I no longer have to worry about food or shelter. GCC has given me love, warmth, and treats me like family.
