School: University of Health Sciences

My name is Van Nita, I am 20 years old, and I am currently a second-year nursing student at the University of Health Sciences. When I was young, my father left my mother and me to start a new family, leaving my mother as a widow. My uneducated mother worked very hard in Phnom Penh so I could get an education, while I stayed in the countryside with my grandmother. Life was very difficult-when it rained, we had to run to a neighbor’s house for shelter because our house leaked and flooded. We often didn’t have enough food to eat. After graduating from high school, I didn’t know what to do next because I didn’t have money to study the major I wanted, until I learned about Global Children through one of my teachers.
Thanks to Global Children and Ms. Laura, I am now studying the major I have always dreamed of. Since living with Global Children, I have truly gained a new life
—I have a good place to live, enough food to eat, and even a bicycle to ride to school. In the future, I want to become a good nurse and return to help this organization give the next generation of children the same chance to study that I received.
