I am the second daughter in a very poor family living 40 km from Prey Veng Province. My father is an aging farmer who relies on rainy season rice crops that often fail, forcing him to work multiple jobs-carrying vegetables and meat at the market, fixing bicycle wheels, delivering food, and riding a moto-doing anything legal to earn money. My mother suffers from high blood pressure and stays home, requiring expensive medication we can barely afford. Our house roof leaks during the rainy season, and sometimes we have no food to eat. Witnessing this poverty drove me to believe that only education could change my life.

I walked or biked to school every day with strong commitment, eventually passing grade 12 with grade D. 1 was briefly excited, then devastated realizing university was impossible for my family. When I heard about Global Children Cambodia from a woman in my village, I applied with little hope. Receiving confirmation of my full scholarship made my soul fly-my dream had come true.
