On Saturday, May 2, New York’s Cambodian community celebrated Buddha’s Birthday at Watt Samakki in Brooklyn.  They very graciously extended an invitation to Global Children Cambodia.  According to tradition, we participated in the Wien Tien, the circling of the Watt three times while carrying incense and flowers to honor Buddha’s Birthday, Enlightenment, and Passing.

Ven. Bunthouen Thor and Ven. BunSim Oung performed blessings and prayers in the early afternoon.  Those present also tossed flower petals towards the altar at certain points during the prayers.  Afterwards, we enjoyed a beautiful and delicious feast of traditional Cambodian dishes made by members of the community.

A memorable time was had by all, and we look forward to continuing to connect with the local Cambodian community and educating ourselves about Cambodian traditions and customs.  An enormous thank you to the community for extending an invitation to us and for making us feel so welcome and at home during the celebration.  We are honored to have ben invited.
